Neep HELP! LAW question

If a law firm collection agency purchases a debt and assigns it to another law firm collector to sue for it and they get judgement is this legal? Do they have to provide affidavit of the amount owed from the original creditor in the case file? If the account is no longer owned by the OC is the OC the plaintiff in a lawsuit OR is the plaintiff the firm which actually bought the account??
