My Co-Signer

My Co-signer for my vehical is an ex boyfriend of mine. We were planning on getting engaged, we were together for 4 years,...and problems came up. Were now seperated, and a year after the seperation he calls me giving me the options of either refinancing the car (which ive tried, im upside down on the loan about 200 dollars,) or selling it. I was late on 2 or 3 payments and he says that if i dont do either of the 2, that he will take me to court. Can he do that? Is he allowed to take me to court to force me to sell the car even though he did sign to be the co-signer and it was only late a few times and is currently caught up???? Any help would be great
