I am confused about what is required by the collector when validation of a debt is requested. I read the section in FDCPA that pertains to this and i see the word "verification" and nothing that says the collector has to provide signed contract, proof they can legally collect...etc ( read the sample letter on why chats site ).........so what do they legally have to provide if we request validation........it looks to me like its only the name and address of the original creditor......did i miss something?
And also i asked before if you can ask for validation if you never responded to a first letter from a collector......never responded to anything....can you then ask them to validate. I received a bill for something in august from a collector that i know i dont owe....and i never responded.....can i send a validation letter now? Thanks.
