Now here's the explanation you need -
Wollman letter
Case law (brennen/spears)

They say a computer printout or itemization is not enough, and full accounting of debt is needed.

The FDCPA does not define what verification or valdation is - the FTC had to do that later on using staff opinion letters and case law.

go to www.ftc.gov and search for ftc opinion letters, or FDCPA. :) I'll see if I can find the links for you too. But basically the FDCPA is just like every other law - written vaguely and has to be interpretated by the courts and regulatory agencies... It may not tell you what validation is but the links I mentioned will tell you what it isn't.
