scams with providian and emerge accounts

i originally had 2 providian accounts with perfect credit and payments. unfortunately i was laid off and my credit protection kicked in. this is when they sold one of my cards to emerge. i have been unemployed for over 1 and 1/2 years mostly because of overexperience. somewhere providian dropped the ball and stopped paying my protection payments. i have contacted them over and over and now it is a nightmare. both companies call me over 12 times a day. nobody listens and they just keep adding charges and fees. i told them not to call the number i have on the account because luckily thank god i am working and that is my work number now. they said they will call anyway. i faxed over a cease and desist letter and a dispute letter for the rediculous fees and charges they are incurring on the account. i just wanted a balance as of the last date i had activity and for them to stop calling me at work. they have not stopped. i just spoke to someone at emerge who after i again explained the situation told me i owe everything. i started to tape her and reviewed what i was asking for from the company. she didnt like that and hung up on me. i really would like to sue for harrassment, but i dont know what my next step would be. they are trying to scam me. they are not interested in payments anymore. they just want to torture me and then send it to a collection agency. my interest rates tripled when they sold my account and i told them i do not accept the account being changed while i am on credit protection. they dont care. anyone have any advice?
