I screwed up in my early 20s, on several levels (but that's another story), and got by on cash for years. In 2000, I qualified on my own for a car loan...19.95% interest!!! I refi'd @18 mos. later w/my credit union: @6.74%
May 2001: Equifax FICO was 616
October 2003: Equifax FICO 713

It can be done...A level-head & patience are all you need...those are free!!
