MBNA did the same thing to me, as well as chase. MBNA stuck a note in with my bill raising my rate from 9.9 to 18%. and Chase raised mine from 9.9% to 14.99%. Chase really made me angry, because 4 years ago they made me an offer no interest for 6 months or 9.9% for the life of my card- and then they raised the rate.

none the less. I tried to negotiate with both MBNA and Chase and was only successful with MBNA. I simply told them if they continued with this rate then they were definitely not going to see any money. This scared them a bit- but it was the absolute truth. ( uping the rates when times are tough and one is on a strict budget can really pin one to the wall!!).

MBNA knocked my rate to 14.99%- still not great, but better. Try calling and negotiating. Start low- and explain your situation. and remember honey gets more flies than vinegar.

good luck!!!
