There's no magic formula. They run your credit to see if they think you may have the ability to pay. They may run a check to see where you are employed.
They also look at the amount you owe. They have to determine whether to sue you or sell the account to someone else.
That amount is usually a pretty good case for a lawsuit. Check your state's SOL and maybe you will ge lucky.
