You don't want verification, you want validation. A big difference. Verifications means, they tell you your name and address and the name of the creditor. Validation means they must furnish some contractual evidence of a debt plus, an accounting.
You never lose the right to validate. The 30 days mentioned means, if you don't demand validation in that time frame, the collection agency may assume the debt is valid.
