statute of limitations has nothing to do with what gets reported to credit bureaus. stuff gets reported to bureau for seven years. often statute of limitations is less than that. so even though you don't have to necessarily pay out of your pocket for an old debt, you still have to bear with the entry on your report, unless you are lucky enough to dispute it's validity and have it deleted.
