Wanting to work it out - who do I speak to

I have some debts that I can't handle paying the minimum on. I was told that I could call my credit card company and explain my situation and they would probably be willing to settle with me. Who do I ask to speak with when I call them? I want to make sure I speak with someone that is authorized to work with me.
