You have a legal right to dispute any amount. An account in dispute is an account in dispute. You are ok. You are not denying the debt all together which may make you appear as a deadbeat if you have to go to court. You just dispute the amount which you can legally do so. After an account is charged off, they cannot charge you interest or collection fees, only the legal fees you agree to in your contract.
