IN Texas, they cannot garnish your wages or take your home. Your homestead is exempt. So they cannot touch your house or your wages. I think your cars up to a certain amount is also exempt. They can freeze your checking account before judgment so it is wise to start getting your cash turned into assets. If they get a judgment they can make your life miserable by keeping you from getting a bank account. Judgments last a long time so try and avoid that if you can.

Has the account been charged off? Can you still work out a hardship program with the orginal creditor.

Bankruptcy may be something you can look at. SOme bankruptcy plans do allow you to keep your home. You might need to consult with an attorney on this one.
