McDonald’s Burger King, they’re all the same. All these debt buyers work in the same manner. You have to decide where you want to be before you choose the route to get there. Do you need them off your credit report? Then settle. Do you want to save your money? Then don’t pay. Wait out the SOL.

MBNA and Wolpoff went away because they made a business decision that taking 3 cents on the dollar for your account would be more beneficial than attempting to extract money you don’t have through arbitration or suing you. That gives you some idea of what the odds they figured they had of ever collecting from you. So why would RJM think any differently? Expect lots of phone calls and letters. Nothing more.

As far as the tradelines go on your credit report, you’ll have one for MBNA should say charged off 02/2001 with a Zero balance listed as transferred/purchased by another lender. You’ll also get a RJM tradeline listed as collection account with a balance. That and the MBNA line will both stay on until 02/2008. If you need to settle with RJM all they can do is remove their own tradeline. MBNA won’t ever remove theirs whether you pay in full now or not, since they don’t own the account anymore.
