The Original Creditor can charge you interest up to the time they sell the account but they are limited to state laws governing because they have already taken the writeoff. It is my understanding that CA cannot charge you interest if they buy the account unless you contract specifically states that they can. Collection agencies make their fees on their collection costs. You did not sign a contract with the collection agency, only the original creditor. Do you have a copy of your application and your contract from the original creditor? The CA is probably lying to you. Correct me if I am wrong Why Chat and Lady in Red. That is how I understand it.
