The application for credit is not proper validation. You still would need, The revolving credit card agreement that went with your account and most importantly, a line by line ledger style accounting of each and every signed charging incident. (A statement showing the balance is not acceptable). They must prove how they arrived at their alleged balance. Your signature on the Original Application may have been applied by them. It's happened before. Never trust a collection agency and never sign any letters to them so that they could use your signature by applying it to a fake application. Are you asking for validation on an account that is not very old? Also the previous post is correct in that you may have never received the application for credit as they never ship anything out Certified Mail to prove that you received. Do not tell the CA that you received anything and proceed as if they have not validated yet. Send the CA a letter and say something like; Upon further scrutiny, I believe this account to be in err, as there is a question with regard to ownership of this alleged account. (If you have paid them any money, say this). I further demand that you hold in escrow any and all monies paid until such time as this can be resolved. What you have implied without saying it, is that, there is a possibility of identity theft and the CA will not want any part of this. The CA will probably ship the account on to the next CA. or will cease their collection attempts. Never give up!! CA's are not hard to beat.
