Well, I received a surprise this morning. My doorbell rang and the man asked for me by name. I acknowledged who I was and was handed a Summons. The plaintiff, Chase Manhattan Bank, is suing me in Superior Court instead of Small Claims Court. The demand is for $2,275.13 plus interest. Does anyone have an idea why Chase Manhattan chose a Civil Suit in Superior Court as opposed to Small Claims Court? I've been sued in Small Claims Court by GE Capital, in the past. I'm not planning to hire an attorney. But the summons says I have to respond in 30 days. Anyone else been sued by the original creditor without the account being charged-off or going to a collection agency? I also received papers for the California Alternative Dispute Resolution program.
