Bad Checks and JBC!

I received a letter from JBC demanding to pay for bad check (8 years old-1995) and those checks are time -barred under FL statute or I will face civil action!
My concern is:
In FL:
BAD CHECK LAWS (CIVIL PENALTY)
After 30 day demand-treble amount in addition to amount owed, bank & court costs & reasonable attorney fees. And that is exactly what JBC mentioned in their letter!
So is that make any deference's in my case .
