Deb, If you don't need a credit card then don't get one. There is no such thing as "rebuilding your credit." This is a phrase started by subprime lenders and used car dealers to make you think that somehow "new" credit will balance out your "bad" credit. As long as you pay an unGodly interest rate, you are on your way to recovery. BS! Only time or effective disputing can help your credit. Then again a credit card with a low balance could help but only after enough time goes by. If you want a credit card that is not secured try Orchard Bank. I know some people don't like them (and I do not endorse them or any credit card) but they offer people with bad credit an unsecured card. Most important the limit is very low which makes it easy to manage yet is usually enough to ,say, rent a car. I'm not sure what the fee is for opening the account but it's not $299.00. Stay away from vultures.
