IRS Tax Lien

In 1996 an IRS tax lien was filed againt me on the property I owned in Georgia which at that time was my principal residence. The amount of the tax lien was approximately 31k. On 05/08/02 I sold the property and paid the IRS tax lien. TransUnion and Experian are still showing the lien as being filed. I disputed as not mine twice to no avail. I then disputed as paid twice to no avail. They keep coming back as verified.

I sent both to TransUnion and Experian a CRRR letter stating the obvious that the lien indeed was a matter of public record. As was the sale of the house also a matter of public record. It is common knowledge that you cannot sale property on which a lien has been placed without satisfying the lien. Therefore since I did sale the house and that is a matter of public record, that it necessarily followed that the tax lien was in fact paid. They still verified as filed. I contend that their posting an unpaid tax lien is in fact inaccurate and should be removed.

I have since complained in the same vien to the BBB, and truthfully do not have any idea if that will work to my benefit or not.

I have a copy of the closing statement showing the IRS lien ########## to be paid. I also have a copy of the Certificate of Discharge from the IRS. I also have a copy of the fax communication to the closing attorney and a copy of their check and remittance letter showing it to be paid. I am afraid if i send these documents to TransUnion and Equifax they will verify as PAID and leave it on my credit report. My goal is to have it totally removed because as it is now reporting it is inaccurate and incomplete. Anyone have any suggesstions as to how I should proceed with this, and the best way to have the entry deleted in its entirety instead of marked paid.

Thanks

Marv
