I can't comment on your situation but I can tell you that my husband had a Providian charge off in 2001 (close to $4,000). I wanted to try my luck and I disputed it online with all 3 CRA.... Equifax and Experian took it right off!!!!! I haven't heard from TU yet but it hasn't been a full 30 days.

I think Providian is in some legal trouble so it may not be a bad time to dispute... it worked for us!!!!
