First of all, you obviously have a charge off (or two) with MBNA. What he meant by maintaining your credit is anyones guess. A charge off is bad news....and there is no going back from a charge-off. Perhaps he meant maintaining bad credit. Anyway W and A is a parasite. They are well known for suing, so find out your state laws concerning statute of limitations.
Above all I wouldn't send them any money. If you do you only admit to whatever they claim. If they continue to harass you or threaten to sue, tell them that your financial situation has forced you to consider Bankruptcy. Of course they will check some credit file on you to see if that is true but as of now the BK laws are still pretty liberal. Sometimes a threat of BK is enough to make them step back.
