Camco is a collection agency as defined by the FDCPA. As for not verifing that you were the wife, the FDCPA does not state that anything more than your word is needed, if you say your his wife then that is good enough, if you lie the blame is on you, not the collection agency. As for being licenced in AZ, many debtors move from state to state and it is difficult for collectors to know what state they are contacting the debtor in. I do understand that CAMCO does have many complaints about them, but any collection agency that collects on old debts will because many debtors do not fully understand the law. It is 100% legal to call and try to collect on debts that are not in the statue of limitations, all that means is they cannt sue, the debt is still collectable. If people didnt wait 5,7,10 years to pay there bills, then there wouldnt be a site with all these complaints. The people complaining for the most part are people that took goods and/or services and never paid for them. You dont see first card, bank one, or anyother bank tearing into those people, listing there names on the internet and wanting to sue them for 1,000's of dollars. If you think about it, who should be more upset, the people that never paid there bill, or the people that gave $, had a signed agreement, trusted the debtor to pay it back, and never got paid back. These sites amaze me, i guess it is the american way though. Not only do most of these people have no intention of paying there bills, (because there too old, as if that is a good excuse) but they want to sue CAMCO and get $ out of them for tring to collect. How does that make any sense, you stole $ from a company, someone asks you to pay it back, and you think you deserve $ from them, HA! Just pay your damn bills people!
