I am in California and got a settlement offer from Arrow Financial regarding an account that I had with a credit card company. The original amount $4000 and arrow said with interest it was $5347. The settlement amount was for $747.60. They said that it had to reach them by November 15th. I thought about it for a week and decided to go for it. I got a money order, and that very day I found out my grandmother passed away and needed to go out of town. I forgot about it and mailed it out certified on November 17th, and they got it on the 19th. I was thinking everything was fine until I got another letter from them the other day stating that I still owed them the difference. I called and they said the settlement offer was void because it was three days late, and that I was responsible now for the full amount. The guy that I spoke with was very rude, and belittled me by saying "you think we would settle this account for just over $700, what are you smoking?, you damn well better pay up buddy." I promply hung up the phone. Well, every day since I have gotten at least two phone calls from these people. Thankfully I have caller ID and don't answer the phone. What can I do, if anything, to force them to hold up to the settlement? Should I just continue to ignore them and let the cards lay where they will...advice please.
