I have done both. both seem to work equally well for me. The only problem with online disputing is that if you dispute the same thing in a certain time period their online dispute system will usually not let you. So you usually have to pick apart the tradeline to dispute something other than "is not mine". In those cases just wait about 3 months and try another online dispute. Although I have found that your options with online disputing are rather limited and they hardly give you the opportunity to properly explain yourself. In those cases I always send CRRR.
