Just a reminder that when the board is talking about a maximum of $1,000, that is STATUTORY damages only. You get statutory damages for any violation - strict liability.

In other words, you don't have to prove any mental distress, etc. for statutory damages. However, if the conduct is so oppressive or harrassing, there are, in addition to the statutory damages of $100 to $1000, "pain and suffering" damages and punitive damages.

So...for those of you out there who may be reading this and have had a horrible horrible experience - the damages will not be limited to $1,000. The court will consider pain and suffering and punitive damages - DEPENDING on the amount of harm caused by the collector's behavior.
