Yes;

It is a pie job. Even ambulance chaser attorneys look with scorn upon the lowlives who devolve willingly to the level of collection attorney.
Summary Judgement means 'no further triable issues of fact, gimme my judgement'. Not so fast. Unfortunately you are still within SOL. However Motion for Summary is usually an intimidation tactic sometimes a gamble by the enemy lawyer to scare you away from any further self-defense. It's an attempt to short-circuit judicial process against you.
You make an excellent point. Many local judges do not take kindly to out-of-town hotsnot lawyers beating up this weeks debtors who might be next year's voters. A very good point.
