I'm being sued! What to do?

Credigy, successor of First Select has sued me for an amount I had owed sometime in 1997. First Select had offered me a settlement late last year. I began payments (4 payments) on the settlement, but then was not able to contact FS after I got several payments in, probably because they were bought out by credigy. What can I do, I am willing to pay the amount they are suing for, and then some to get out of judgement. I live in PA, I think the sol is 4 years, but does making a payment on settlement extend it? I am very worried and scared about my next step. Please help! Thank you.
