Here is how TransUnion is showing a tax lien on my credit report.

Type: Federal Tax Lien Status: Filed Date Filed/Reported: 04/01/1996
Reference#: 589610069 Amount: 33946 Date Released: 01/01/1970

I live in the state of Florida. And the tax lien was paid on 05/08/02, yet transunion is showing it released in 1970. The house on which the tax lien was placed was sold 05/08/02 and the tax lien was paid out of the proceeds for less than the amount stated. I have disputed as "not mine" and "paid". Also wrote a letter to TU saying that since the house ownership was a matter of public record and the lien was also a matter of public record filed againt me and the property, that since this property was in fact sold on 05/08/02 that it necessarily follows that the tax lien had to be PAID in order to sell the property. They still verified.

Do you think my next dispute should be on the basis of time barred reporting since they are reporting the release date of 1970? Anyone got any ideas to help me remove this negative item?

thanks

Marv
