Yes, you have recourse. Document that call, every single word you can remember. Get a tape recorder and tape them IF you decide to speak to these slugs again. Their threats are completely illegal and blatant violations of the FDCPA. Everything they said to you is bullcrap, pure and simple. You cannot go to jail for not paying a debt, and its also NOT fraud.

I would also call the FTC and register a complaint, make sure you tell them of every threat of arrest, jail, fraud, etc.

You can sue these ashholes for that behavior, and if you can get their threats on tape, you've got 'em dead to rights for court. Do NOT tell them you are taping - they're acting illegally and the FTC wants to get that kind of crap on tape !

When did you last pay Providian.. and what state are you in ??
