OC on repo never tried to collect but won't remv/settle

I had a car repo'd in 1998 & at that time recvd ltr from the OC which is a credit union, saying your car was repo'd today. THe ltr does not reference account # or anything or $ amt due either. I believe last pymt was approx. 2/98. So in 2/2004 it will be 6 yrs from DOLA. I am trying to buy another house and don't want less than a conv. loan for this house. So... what's my best course of action to get them to remove this off all 3 cra's? I am in AZ. I've asked for assistance for this issue on this board before but didn't get very far. I have disputed as 'not mine' w/ CRA's as recent as 6 mos ago and it came back verified. SOL in AZ 'I think' is 6 yrs for written contract. On my CR it's showing as Acct Submitted to Collection - Charge Off $9000 on 11/98. Remember, I have NEVER received anything from this credit union other than that original ltr that literally says, your car was repo'd today - contact us. I have spoken with the CU mgr as recent as this fall and he is unwilling to settle. What should I do?? I'm even tempted to hire an atty to handle for me as quickly as possible, but not sure how to go about that. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
