As stated in the other posts, you need not give them any information whatsoever. In the United States you needn’t answer a police officer’s questions let alone some private gumshoe’s with a Barney Fife badge unless compelled by a subpoena from a court. For general information, there is something called an “information subpoena” that can be obtained from a court, but it must be issued in your name with the specific questions listed on it in writing. An information subpoena may be obtained by judgment creditors seeking information about a debtor’s assets from a third party. You may recall the recording industry obtained these forcing ISP’s to reveal information about their subscriber’s names and addresses. Without a subpoena, you don’t have to say anything.
