How does a settlement affect your credit rating versus the charge off?

From what I've read, once they proceed to arbitration, they will end up with a judgment. The court cases seem to allow credit card companies to require arbitration.

I don't want to file bankruptcy if I can work out a settlement. I don't think I have the money to fight them in court once they get that far.
