My Aunt is in a bind and we cannot seem to get the information that we need. I am posting this as a last ditch effort to help her. In a nutshell, my uncle was not a smart man. Due to his job, they lived apart during the week, some 150 miles apart actually. After his death, it became known that noone of us knew this man, including his wife. There was no life insurance. There has been well over $100,000 in debts turn up over the last year, that she knew nothing of. Mostly credit card debt, that she is not authorized on, nor has she ever been. She has contacted a lawyer about filing bankruptcy, but he is not helping her. Things have been dragging on for almost a year, and all he ever tells her is, don't worry about it. She has signed nothing with him, nor has she paid him anything. I guess my fist concern is if she is actually liable for this debt. She is not listed on any of the accounts but one, and never saw a credit card from that one. This is in the state of Iowa, which I believe is not community property. She is being told she could lose everything, but not to worry about it, because she can file on the debt. Does she even need to?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!
