Call or go by the court house and ask to view your file. Look for the servicing document, and see what the server's return says about service on you. Does NY have provision for service such as the one you describe in their procederal rules?

If you are paying the Judgment Creditor, why would he/she want to attempt to levy on your assets?

The General Execution does apply to Safety Deposit Boxes, but only if its stated on the execution. The bank can only state that you have a safety deposit box, they don't know whats in it.
Most executions I've seen do not list a Safety Deposit Box. However, if you have a sharp Judgment Recovery Agent on your tail end, he will put it on the execution form along with any and all accounts and any asset the bank may be holding in your name. The bank is drilled with a series of Interrogatories about you, that leaves nothing to want and is also required to respond to these, under court order.

If this Judgment is only in your name, you may consider opening your account under a different primary with you listed as an authorized signor.
