calls from credit card issuers

Ever since I did the phone opt out my phone calls from credit card companies have increased 3X ? Is that normal? Do credit card companies with whom you have a current business relationship call your home number for employment verification? Isn't that strange?(especially when the high interest account has a zero balance) Not sure if anyone here will be able to answer those questions but if you can I would appreciate it. It has been over a month since I did the phone "permanent opt out" and I have not received anything to acknowledge the opting out and only more calls and letters from credit card companies? Is my case unique?
