It depends on the situation. If you are able to put them off by giving them a reason to believe you intend to pay at some future date, and then postpone that date, they will not believe that you know about SOL.

If, however, it appears that you are vulnerable to a judgment, nothing you do will alter their credit decisions. Accounts are "rated" based on the statistical chances of recovery versus the costs of recovery. If you have a small debt, they will wait and probably not sue anyway, a large one, they will most certainly file suit. In-between is where you can stall, if you have a short State SOL.
