This is an excellent site, I have links to their letters on my website. However, you may note that they are talking about a proccess that includes the possibility of a lawsuit, and since you DID get validation, there is nothing to prevent that. As to "settlement", I personally do not believe in paying collection agencies a single ¢. However, every situation is different. If you are young, not a homeowner, not married and have other debts on your records, it is possible they will not file suit. The reason I do not suggest validation is because it indicates you are interested in the status of your credit, that implies a certain level of responsibility for paying your debts. The proccess of validation is very useful if you are trying to clear your credit reports to buy a home or a car, otherwise, unless you are past SOL (or a victim of ID theft) it is, in my opinion, pointless and counterproductive. I suggest you lay low, put your $$ in an account they can't touch, and hope they don't sue.
