As to "settlement", I personally do not believe in paying collection agencies a single ¢.

However,every situation is different. If you are young, not a homeowner, not married and have other debts on your records, it is possible they will not file suit.

The reason I do not suggest validation is because it indicates you are interested in the status of your credit,that implies a certain level of responsibility for paying your debts.

The proccess of validation is very useful if you are trying to clear your credit reports to buy a home or a car,otherwise, unless you are past SOL (or a victim of ID theft) it is, in my opinion, pointless and counterproductive.

I suggest you lay low, put your $$ in an account they can't touch, and hope they don't sue.
