Also, aren't 401Ks and certain types of IRAs untouchable by creditors and exempt from BK? If so, they may be another good place to store funds so that they're legally protected, like the old MC Hammer song "You can't touch this". Also, you can borrow from a 401k to buy a house (I think up to 50% of your 401K, not sure though), and take out loans if you really have to.
