I have settled with CAs for 50%. BUT, I was always able to say I'll settle for that amount and will send them a check within 7 days. They have never turned me down when you can get the full balance to them.
Most buy for about 25% of the balance, but they know a certain percentage will never pay.
ALWAYS settle with them by having them mark the account 'paid in full, never late'. Just paid in full is not enough, your lates will still show. Get it in writing before any check is sent.
