I have just recieved a very similar letter from this "Northland Group Inc." going as follows:

"Dear MY NAME,

Our client, CITIBANK (SOUTH DAKOTA), N.A., will allow you to settle your account for $935.20 in 3 payments over 3 months starting on 12/15/03. Once all three payments of $311.73 have been paid to our office on time, we will consider this account resolved and we will then issue you a release letter that the account is settled. Payments must NOT be more than 30 days apart or this settlement will be cancelled. Please send in the payments along with a payment stub to the address listed on the coupon. The client will also send you a 1099 form on writeoffs over six hundred dollars.

Sincerely,

(signature here)

JOHN MULKERN"

Well, for starters, I've never recieved any goods of services from CITIBANK so I don't see how I can owe that much money to them (originally $1700.36, from what the letter said). Secondly, I recieved this via snail-mail on Friday, 12/12/03 and the first payment is due Monday, 12/15/03 - which is imposible to accomplish.

I looked up CITIBANK online and it's just an online bank that markets sleasy credit cards with "0% APR" all over the ads and "*for the first 1/2/3 mo., 20-50% interest after that." stuck off to the side some how.

In the meantime I have'nt recieved any other notice from CITIBANK. So, why am I getting letters from a debt collection agency in the first place?

I also noticed that Northland Group Inc. also goes by the name Northland Services. And, CITIBANK also goes by the names citi.com, and citigroup. Why do these people need to use so many different names?

Anyway, How do I get these S#!TSTAINS off my back!? I'm currently in the military, so this can get me into alot of serious trouble - not only by ruining my credit, but criminal delinquency charges through the military as well! I seriously need your help, and I greatly appreciate anything that you can do.

Sincerely,
SWAT
