I had a question regarding a statute of limitations on a collection debt. I have a friend that the cable company is trying to collect a debt that occured in October of 1996. There was never any attempt to collect on this debt previous to the collection attempt they have made last week. She also had no idea that this debt existed. I thought that after 7 years that if no atempt had been made to collect a debt the debt had to be discharged as uncollectable. We are in the state of Montana. If you could please direct me where to find the state or federal code that states the statute we would be greatful. Thank you!
