You always file a notice of appeal to the next level. If you were sued in circuit court, then you appeal to the appellate court.

Sometimes, if you make a mistake, and file the notice in the wrong court, the judge or the court will give you the opportunity to correct the mistake. (That buys a little time, but they do not have to do that for you. )

Make sure that you take the notice to the court in person, and have it date stamped. Also, send a copy to the other side.

You might want to go to the law library at the courthouse and ask the librarian for help in filling out your notice of appeal.
