Charge offs

I live in South Carolina and had an account with Providian for 9791.41 and have not paid them since July of 2001 (due to husband leaving). They did not contact me for a year. On my credit report they have charged off the account. Now I have a company called Hudson and Keyse, LLC contacting me via mail. Stating they they will go to court and get a civil judgement and then execte against my earnings and/or assets. Can they do that after Providian charged me off and does South Carolina allow wage garishments. Thanks for you help.
