Send the validation, dispute & C&D and hopefully they won't do any of it. This CA needs a good beating with the wire end of the fly swatter. My Mom's favorite weapon.

Make sure you also include with your letter, the statement that they should produce the notarized and signed, assignment and or sale document that would give them the right to view his CR and give them the right to do anything.

You obviously could call TU but I don't believe it will do any good. But...as this is one big Barn Yard Frolic, you never know, till you try.
