You can always file an answer, even if you have no "good" affirmative defense. Require them to prove every bit of their claim, including copies of signed applications, complete accounting for all charges etc. If it is MBNA make sure you DECLINE arbitration. If you go to arbitration, NONE of your FDCPA or other legal rights are considered.

You can file an answer stating "no knowledge" of the accuracy of things like amounts due, dates etc. including the points of if the CA has legal authority to bring the suit, is licensed etc.

Usually, the Court will require mediation, at which time, you may be able to work out an equitible deal.
