Finally contacted a non-nitwit at the agency. He asked for a copy of the deed of trust. This contains the statement "sole and separate property". He said they will remove when received.

Apparently they file liens against all property in the same county titled under the same surname as the alleged debtor. This is obvious lack of due diligence to prevent entangling innocent parties.
