CHarge off from a credit card

I had a credit card debt with a company. IT was opened in 1992, it is approximately 12 years old. It was charged off and taken off my credit report. Now I received a letter in the mail from that company saying they want their money now. Is this legal does anyone know, isn't their a statue of limitations for something like this.
