But credit cards are open, correct? not written contracts

I was under the impression that something like a car loan was a written contract. You have to pay back a specific amount on their terms.

A credit card is different because it varies month to month and there is also the possibility that someone can run up big charges on them without your consent. You agree to abide by the terms of the credit card, but you do not agree to pay back a specific amount, only to abide by their terms. It was my impression that is why the law considers them to be a special 'open' case, with a different set of laws governing them.

Is this right?
