FYI - Federal BK court trumps ANY state-ordered divorce decree. If you have ALL the debts you're saddled with discharged, AND you make sure you include you EX as a creditor in your BK, then there is now way the Ex can come after your for discharged debts. Divorce decree means nothing when it comes to BK court. The key is to make sure you include the EX as a creditor - that makes it permanently forbidden for the Ex to pursue you for ANY discharged debt. If she tries to sue you for the debts you were ordered to pay in the divorce decree, she would then be in violation of the Federal BK law and she would definitely LOSE !

I agree.. see a bankruptcy lawyer NOW. However, keep in mind that even if you file for BK, your BK could be held up until the property settlement is completed - and the reverse is true. The BK could hold up the final proceedings in your divorce !
